<\/p>\nThe children in Transition class were surprised a few weeks ago to discover a large parcel in their classroom.\u00a0 Upon further inspection, we discovered that there was a giraffe inside!\u00a0 This sparked great discussion regarding where the giraffe may have come from.\u00a0 While some felt that he must have come from the post office (as he was all ‘wrapped up’!), others thought that he might have come from a farm or a safari park.\u00a0 After much debate, we concluded that our new friend (Gerald) must have come from the zoo.<\/p>\n
Since then, we have been sharing popular animal themed stories and created a beautiful display using bright colours and a range of collage materials.\u00a0 We have been using our imagination in PE sessions to ‘slither’ like snakes, ‘swing’ like monkeys and ‘stomp’ like elephants.\u00a0 In phonics we have been learning to identify loud and quiet sounds, with the help of our ‘loud lion’ and our ‘quiet panda’ puppets.\u00a0 This week we are planning\u00a0 tea party for a tiger, who has recently taken up residence in our home corner.\u00a0 The children will be using their mathematical skills to count buttons onto biscuits, and to set the table with the correct number of plates, knives and forks for the tiger and his guests.<\/p>\n
We would especially like to thank Mrs Roach to coming into school to talk to the children about her experiences of working at the safari park as a vet.<\/p>\n
