Hello Parents & Carers,

Welcome back to the Forest School Blog…

Last week at Norfolk Road the children experimented with making fairy ladders and doors out of foraged materials (sticks, leaves and seeds) in the Forest School area, inspired by our trip to Warley Woods a couple weeks ago. We talked about keeping ourselves safe outdoors and what to do when we see berries and mushrooms. With plenty of rotting wood and the moist damp weather we are getting, you will be seeing lots of beautiful species of wild mushrooms popping up. Why not check your back garden or take a trip to your local park/woodland to see if you can spot them. Make a note of where they’re located, the shape, colours and textures. This is a great opportunity to remind your child/ren about keeping themselves safe. It’s okay to look but we don’t want to touch wild mushrooms and berries without gloves and we must wash our hands before we put them near our faces. For more information on common poisonous mushrooms found in the UK, visit https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/blog/2022/10/poisonous-mushrooms/

At Harborne Road the children had the opportunity to capitalise on the very wet rainy weather with our makeshift river and boats. We filled up some tarpaulin with water and the children took it in turns to be pulled in their boat (sled) with sticks as oars!

At Oxford Road we had our first campfire together with preschoolers and later on in the week  more role play emerged, this week inspired by sticks! The children had a go at making posts, a mini swing and more fishing rods.

Another gentle reminder … to please remember to bring spare clothes for your little one/s (especially on Forest School days), wellies and wetsuits, to ensure that your child can make the most of waterplay and wet weather!
