Hello Parents & Carers,

Welcome back to the Forest School Blog…

Last week at Norfolk Road the children explored den building for themselves and created habitats for insects. They used different length twigs, sticks and branches to make their very own den. Both the toddlers and preschoolers got stuck in and enjoyed foraging for their branches and leaves.

At Harborne Road the children also explored den building using upcycled cardboard as well as stacking boxes and branches. The preschoolers explained that theirs was for a dinosaur and were able to describe what their dinosaur looked like. Again the children built their own mini assault course with tyres, stumps and beams.

At Oxford Road the children were engrossed in their campfire role play. We have been practising how we conduct ourselves around the campfire and revising the components of the fire (the fire triangle which consists of oxygen, heat and fuel).

Another gentle reminder … to please remember to bring spare clothes for your little one/s (especially on Forest School days), wellies and wetsuits, to ensure that your child can make the most of waterplay and wet weather!

Norfolk Road: Den building, hide and seek, mud kitchen, foraging for natural materials.

Harborne Road: Den building, mud kitchen, mark making with chalk, exploring with binoculars, singing, assault course.

Oxford Road: Role play (campfire and pouring water over the fake fire), climbing, digging, making muddy puddles, aeroplane role play, baking and cooking in the mud kitchen.

Take a look on the Woodland Trust Website for more ideas and inspiration on how you could build your very own den in the back garden or at your local park/woodland – https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/blog/2019/10/how-to-build-a-den/
