Hello Parents & Carers,
Welcome back to the Forest School Blog…
Last week at Norfolk Road, similarly to the week prior, we continued with gardening activities which the children have taken a liking too! They replanted and trimmed the blackberry and raspberry bushes, whilst the toddlers dug up the garden bed to prepare their new positioning. They very much enjoyed collecting water from the water butt and watering the plants. We also took some preschoolers and toddlers on another walk. They soon came to discover that their favourite red maple tree had shed most of its leaves. We talked about the seasons and the life cycle of a tree.
At Oxford Road, we planted our spring bulbs in the front garden. We named the different tools we were using and the children shared annecdotal experiences gardening at home. There was lots of role play, cooking in the mud kitchen and foraging for hidden pumpkins and squash. We also had a campfire this week! Fun fact … Did you know that pumpkins are classified as a fruit not a vegetable.
It was great to meet so many of you at the stay and play sessions at Norfolk Road and Oxford Road last week. I hope you enjoyed your campfire experiences and I look forward to hosting more in the future!
At Harborne Road the children had lots of fun last week furthering their climbing and balancing skills with the logs, tyres and beams. The children also imagined an adventurous journey through woods and across the seas, which we enacted out. The preschool children worked together to construct a mini den with sticks, branches and a children’s wooden mallet.
Another gentle reminder … to please remember to bring spare clothes for your little one/s (especially on Forest School days), wellies and wetsuits, to ensure that your child can make the most of waterplay and wet weather!
