Welcome back to the Forest School Blog…

Last week at Oxford Road the children made a huge muddy puddle and used odd bits of wood to create their very own balancing activities. They bravely took turns climbing the willow arch and enjoyed having marshmallows on the campfire. The toddlers were preparing for their bird watching in the park next week (The annual Big Garden Birdwatch returns on 24th–26th January 2025), we listened to the birds, made a bird feeder with apples and mixed seeds and looked at different birds on their checklist.

At Norfolk Road the preschool children had the opportunity to take a walk down the road and visited their favourite acer tree. We showed them the buds and spoke about how we would have to wait until spring/summer to see the beautiful vibrant red leaves grow again. They also enjoyed spotting lots of winter signs in nature and was greeted by a lovely great, great, great grandmother whom we exchanged well wishes too and they showed her what they had found (sticks, pine cones and leaves). The toddlers enjoyed a very sunny day this week and were gardening, collecting water from the water butt and relaxing in the hammock.

At Harborne Road toddlers and preschoolers also enjoyed having a campfire and used all their senses to take in the experience. The children have been enjoying having the bales of hay and have been asking questions about straw, they have enjoyed storytime and playing with toy insects.

Another gentle reminder … The weather has been significantly cold and temperatures are dropping very low, it is imperative that all children have waterproofs, coats, gloves and hats, especially on Forest School days to ensure that they are safe and can enjoy their sessions outdoors.
