Hello Parents & Carers,

Welcome back to the Forest School Blog…

Last week at Oxford Road we took another trip to Moseley Park with the Preschoolers. We all had a fantastic time; children and staff alike. This week the children built a den out of sticks, balanced on tree stumps (some were very very large). We also spotted more jelly ear fungus as well as smokey bracket fungi on deadwood. This week we walked all the way round to the back of the lake where the children were excited to find a little tributary stream trickle down from the main lake. Some of the children spoke of their love for water and their personal associations and anecdotes relating to water.  One of the main highlights of the trip was the adventurous mini hike we took in amongst the laurel bushes and trees. The children were very determined and demonstrated great resilience climbing up a huge dead oak tree trunk that had fallen to the ground. To round off the session we fed the ducks before returning back to the nursery. We are looking forward to returning back, to continue on our adventures.

At Norfolk Road the Preschool children had the opportunity to forage for natural materials and make clay snowmen. We discussed the different parts of a snowman and how we might construct these ourselves using natural materials foraged alongside some man-made materials.

Another gentle reminder … to please remember to bring spare clothes for your little one/s (especially on Forest School days), wellies and wetsuits, to ensure that your child can make the most of waterplay and wet weather!
