Hello Parents & Carers,

Welcome back to the Forest School Blog…

Last weekend I participated in a DOUBLE hike across the beautiful countryside of Yorkshire (Yorkshire Moors and Wolds). If you’re ever travelling up North, I highly recommend you pop by, lot’s of family friendly places and activities such as Danby Lodge National Park Centre. I have put a little video collage together, to give you a taster of the gorgeous landscape and attractions (see below).

This week also marks the first week that all three NHN sites have had Forest School sessions! It’s been very exciting to start getting to know all of your little ones and observe their interests and interactions outdoors. It certainly gives me lots of motivation and inspiration to bring new ideas and prepare a plethora of resources and activities for them to immerse themselves in!

A big thank you also to staff across all three sites who have welcomed me as part of the team, I feel as if I have been here much longer than I actually have and it has helped me to settle in well.

Another gentle reminder … please remember to bring spare clothes for your little one/s (especially on Forest School days), wellies and wetsuits, to ensure that your child can make the most of waterplay and wet weather!

Please note that children participating in Forest School will be given the opportunity to have warm drinking chocolate (pure cocoa powder with water and milk (cow, oat or soya depending on your child/ren’s dietary needs), a biscuit snack and eventually once we get the campfire going, toasted vegan (no gelatin) marshmallows. If you would NOT like your child/ren to have any of these snacks or would prefer an alternative please do not hesitate to get in contact with your respective Manager (Rosie, Jamila or Alison).

Last week the children have been interested in:

Norfolk Road: finding bugs, numbers, plenty of water play, autumnal colouring, painting trees with mud and berries, mark making with autumnal materials, playing in upcycled boxes (hiding) and singing.

Harborne Road: planting spring bulbs, water play, looking for bugs and singing.

Oxford Road: Using tools, singing, water play, watering the garden, playing in upcycled boxes (boats)
