Hello Parents & Carers,

Welcome back to the Forest School Blog…

Last week was a very busy week in the rain!

We took a trip to Warley Woods with some of the pre-school children and toddlers at Norfolk Road. They enjoyed catching the bus and marvelling over the many autumnal treasures we found in the woods, including mushrooms, different coloured leaves, acorns and birds.

At Harborne Road the children challenged themselves with lots of risky play by creating their very own assault course out of logs, wooden beams and tyres; fantastic for their proprioception, muscle building and coordination. I have shared two resource sheets with this week’s blog, Risky Play Language and Supporting Risky Play, in the hope that it will provide useful tips to support you all at home when you may be engaging in risky play. They are resource sheets for practitioners, but nonetheless the information shared is universal to all adults caring for and nurturing children!.

At Oxford Road we had some fantastic role play emerging inspired by the wet weather and muddy terrain. The children initiated some fantastic imaginative activities and we saw both very deep and focused independent play alongside some group and collective play.

Another gentle reminder … please remember to bring spare clothes for your little one/s (especially on Forest School days), wellies and wetsuits, to ensure that your child can make the most of waterplay and wet weather!
