Hello Parents & Carers,

Welcome back to the Forest School Blog …

At Norfolk Road the toddlers and preschoolers enjoyed checking on the tadpoles and watching them swim in the pond. We also planted sunflower seeds and nasturtium seeds. Both groups have been continuing to practise using hand tools. The children also enjoyed digging in the garden bed and collecting bluebells and dandelions. We used some of these flowers to practise flower printing on paper.

At Oxford Road: this week the toddlers enjoyed practising using their tools again, digging for worms and putting them in the compost box. It’s lovely to see that more toddlers are becoming confident touching and holding them and other creepy crawlies including millipedes, centipedes and woodlice. As the weather has been getting warmer, we have also spent some time sowing seeds (sunflowers, nasturtiums and peas).

At Harborne Road: The preschoolers and toddlers were marvelling over their tulips which were in full bloom this week! We took the opportunity to continue watering their seeds and also to sow some mixed herbs, which they can use in their mud kitchen. The children have also been asking lots of questions about the pond and the new hibernaculum, which has been built in efforts to encourage frogs to settle onsite. Similarly, the children at Harborne Road have been obsessing over creepy crawlies and topping up their compost box.

This will be the last Forest School blog this year, but moving forward we will be sharing monthly newsletters. Please do contact your respective managers to send anecdotes and pictures of your child/children at home, if you see or hear them extending their Forest School activities. We’d love to feature them in the newsletter!
