The Reception class are very excited to have received their Book Trust delivery!

Each year the Book Trust charity provides each child in the Reception class with a ‘Time to Read’ pack containing a colourful reading book and information to help support reading at school and at home. The charity works to transform lives through inspiring a love of reading.

At Norfolk House School we believe that being able to read is one of the most important skills children will learn during their early schooling having far-reaching implications for lifelong confidence and well-being. This year’s book title is Little Monkey written by Marta Altés.

Little Monkey  is a bright and colourful storybook, packed full of heart and humour. Little Monkey shows us that no matter how small you are, or how big the world seems, you can accomplish anything if you put your mind to it. This is just the ‘can do’ attitude that we instill in our Reception children.

This is a book that will inspire children to discover new books and extend their reading choices. Books are fantastic for sharing together – your books don’t always have to be calming bedtime reads. Sharing jokes or laughing at funny pictures and expressions in a story is a great way of bonding with your child.

We have enjoyed reading the book at school, empowering the children through reading and writing, and as they are sent home we hope that parents will agree that ‘Time to Read’ is a wonderful opportunity to engage in reading with their children.

Remember, at Norfolk House School we are ensuring that children progress confidently from learning to read to reading to learn.
