Fees

Scale of Fees
The academic year runs from September to July and comprises three terms: Autumn, Spring and Summer. Fees are reviewed annually, and any change usually takes effect from the start of the academic year.
VAT on Fees
On 29th July 2024 the Chancellor of the Exchequer formally confirmed the government’s intention to impose VAT at the rate of 20% on independent school fees from January 2025.
We are very mindful of the financial sacrifices which parents make to send their children to Norfolk House, and of the fact that they effectively pay twice for their child’s education: once through general taxation and again through our fees. We have therefore decided to absorb as much of the additional burden for parents as we possibly can. Our guiding principle has been to keep our fees affordable.
Assuming that there is no substantial change to the government’s position, in January 2025 we shall reduce our fees so that the gross increase for parents after the addition of VAT will be 3%. In September 2025, the gross fees will increase by 3% in addition to an amount which reflects any inflationary effect on our costs. Our approach in September 2026 will be the same as in September 2025.
We have been preparing for the imposition of VAT for some time. By prudent financial management, which has included scrutiny of our finances to find cost reductions which do not diminish in any way the quality of education and care we provide, we have been able to absorb a good deal of the VAT burden which the government intended should fall on parents. We will also be able to recover some of the VAT on our expenditure, although in common with every other school this is a relatively small amount given that the vast preponderance of our expenditure comprises our salary bill (which does not attract VAT).
As from January 2025 we shall set out our fees in a slightly different format to that previously adopted. The Termly Fee will comprise a single sum which is inclusive of the cost of tuition, lunch, swimming (Years 1 to 6) and the applicable VAT.
