National Young Mathematician’s Award 2018

On Thursday 8th November, Miss Szalasna and Mr Champs accompanied four of our Key Stage 2 pupils to the first round of the National Young Mathematician’s Award. The event is organised by NRICH, a leading Mathematics organisation, in conjunction with the University of Cambridge. Over a thousand schools take part in the competition nationally, with five teams meeting in Harborne for the event.

The pupils were all very excited to be taking part and worked very well as a team to solve a very challenging mathematical puzzle involving dice and systematic thinking. Although the team did not manage to progress to the second round of the competition, they did extremely well and came away with a bag of useful resources.

Staff from the Explore Learning Centre in Harborne, where the event took place, will be in school during January to deliver an assembly.  They will award the pupils with medals and certificates of participation.
