As part of our topic on the Earth, Sun and Moon, Year 5 have been studying the relative sizes of these parts of our Solar System, along with the distance between each of them in space. The children thoroughly enjoyed creating a scale model of the Earth, Sun and Moon which they then used on the playground to discover how far away we are from the Sun. Using a scale of 1m:10000000km, we worked out that the Sun was 15m away from the Earth, but the Moon was only 3.6cm from our planet!
